What it’s Like to Have The Caricature Guy Draw Guests at Your Wedding
While every wedding is unique and we always work with the couple or wedding planner to tailor to their individual needs, we have developed a general flow that seems to work really well for weddings. Here’s what you can expect when The Caricature Guy comes to draw guests at your wedding.
We arrive at the venue dressed for the occasion and long before the guests so we are ready to draw when they come for cocktail hour. We typically set up at a small table with a chair for ourselves and two chairs for our subjects. With our neat stack of paper and a small table lamp we are positioned and ready to go.
As the first guests enter and make their way to the bar we usually get their attention with a warm smile and nod. Inevitably they will look down and notice the small placard sign that reads “caricatures courtesy of the happy couple” next to a cup of drawing pens. A gentle wave of the hand is usually all it takes to pull the first adventurous couple in to be drawn. Once that happens we are off and running. People start to gather around behind us enjoying their first drink, laughing and chatting with each other as they watch us capture a flattering likeness of our subjects. It’s got to be one of the best icebreakers there is.
Soon someone says “we’ll be next” followed by another couple claiming their place in line. One by one we chat with each guest as we draw for a few minutes until its time for the “big reveal”… and their priceless reaction. They’re busy excitedly showing their finished drawing around for approval as the next couple sits to be drawn.
We keep this going until it’s time for us to pause for the arrival of the wedding couple.
With so much experience drawing at weddings, we’ve learned to “read the room” and know when to break so the attention can be where it belongs…on you and your event! Typically that means we pause at the arrival of the newly married couple and for announcements/toasts etc. We break during dinner, resume when the first folks are finishing eating and then keep going for the rest of the party.

My husband hired the Caricature Guy to make our wedding unique. We both didn’t want to waste money on favors that no one even wants and this was perfect. Ed Smith along with an assistant set up in our cocktail area and did caricatures all night for our 131 guests. It was a big hit with the guests, young and old. I think there was a bigger line in front of the Caricature station than the bar. Both Ed and his assistant were punctual, professional and extremely personable. The caricatures came out great and everyone who wanted one seemed to have time to get one. I know some families/couples did multiple ones. Everyone we’ve talked to since the wedding brings up how it was such a great idea and many of them have made copies, posted it on facebook or framed their caricature so it will be a nice keepsake. Ed even used a picture of my husband and myself to do a small caricature of us on the bottom right corner of each one with our wedding date so that everyone will remember it was from our wedding. We would highly recommend The Caricature Guy if you are getting married on the South shore. I’m sure we will continue to hear the praises from our wedding guests for months and years to come.

Wedding Signing Boards
We can work from a photo ahead of time to create a large (24″x 36″) caricature of the wedding couple and have it mounted on board so guests can sign in and add their best wishes around the edges. A cool alternative to a sign-in book.
Custom Paper
Our standard paper is included in our standard wedding package, but if you’d like to add a custom logo with the couple’s name and date in the bottom corner, we can take care of that for just a nominal set up and printing fee.
